Robbie Amell and his sister were raised in Toronto by his parents, Jennifer and Christopher Amell, both jewellers. He is the cousin of an actor Stephen Amell. At the age of six, he started acting in commercials and did modelling alongside his sister. When he was 16, he participated in school plays such as: “Louis, Dave and Fionia”, “Picasso at the Lapin Agile” and “The Importance of Being Earnest”. He took courses at the Canadian Academy Studios Acting school, and in 2006 he matriculated from Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute high school.

Robbie Amell began his career with a small role in the film “Cheaper by the Dozen 2” in 2005, then played Blair Davidson in the horror film “Left for Dead” in 2007, and landed a role in the sitcom “Derek” (2006–2008). In 2008, he had a supporting role in the television movie “Picture This”. The same year, he got a recurring role in the sitcom “True Jackson VP”, in which he played until 2011.
